By on February 9, 2009

John Reese of Validea.com and writing at Forbes has scribed a fairly long article indicating that some of the world’s most successful investors have turned bullish. Reese also extols the virtues of a Benjamin Graham based “Margin of Safety” approach to picking stocks. Reese promotes his Benjamin Graham-based guru strategy computer model which last year only suffered a 14.1% loss versus the 38.5% loss the S&P 500. Reese tracks various guru strategies and the Graham model was the best over the past 5 1/2 years gaining 74% while the S&P 500 lost 17.5%.

Reese provides reasons why the following companies have “Margin of Safety” qualities:

  • MPS Group, Inc. (MPS)
  • American Eagle Outfitters (AEO)
  • Ameron International Corporation (AMN)
  • Schnitzer Steel Industries (SCHN)
  • Steven Madden, Ltd. (SHOO)
