By on October 11, 2008

This bear market may seem awful, but by recent history it may be only halfway over in terms of time. The following stats were posted in a message by ‘trendjockey’ at Marketwatch. I’m relying on him/her for their accuracy.

1973-1974 – 482 trading days for 49% retrace
1976-1978 – 362 trading days for 27% retrace
1981-1982 – 328 trading days for 26% retrace
2000-2003 – 685 trading days for 44% retrace
2007-2008 so far – 257 trading days for 40% retrace
