Net/Net Retailers Gain 146% in a Year

By on February 12, 2010

Last year, the blog Cheap Stocks highlighted 12 retail stocks trading below net current asset value. The average gain on those stocks a year later is 146%. The biggest gainer was a holding we’ve had here in the past (Stein Mart Inc.: up 529%; ouch!). There was one loser amongst the 12 stocks chosen (Zale Corp.; -26%).

SMA Comment: As this screening demonstrates, at the depths of a bear market the most money can be made in deep value stocks.
