Bill Ackman and Carl Icahn in Major Mudslinging Contest
CNBC’s Scott Wapner hosted an entertaining and contentious debate between hedge fund managers Bill Ackman and Carl Icahn this afternoon.
Early on referring to “this Ackman guy,” Icahn proceeded to describe his nemesis as “like the cry-baby in the schoolyard.” “I went to a tough school in Queens…they used to beat up the little Jewish boys, and he was like one of these little Jewish boys crying that the world was taking advantage of him…he’s almost sobbing and he was in my office talking about this Hallwood and how I can help him and it’s like the old song, you rue the day I ever met the guy,” Icahn added. Icahn proceeded to read off a litany of bad press regarding Gotham Partners, Ackman’s former firm.
Subsequently Ackman defends himself and the history and feud between the two is re-hashed ad infinitum for over 25 minutes in the video below. They also discuss Ackman’s recent short selling campaign targeting Herbalife (HLF). It’s likely the most engrossing and insult-laden pissing contest ever broadcast on CNBC.
